The Constitutional Court is scheduled to read a major ruling in the case of eight prominent pro-democracy activists, including Arnon Nampa, Panupong “Mike” Jadnok, Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul, and Parit “Penguin” Chiwarak, on November 10th.
The ruling will be made following a petition made by various law enforcement parties following a pro-democracy speech by Anon, Mike, and Rung on August 10, 2020, given at Thammasat University, at the Rangsit campus. The ruling will determine whether the speech givers had exercised their rights or liberties to overthrow the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State as described in Section 49 of the Thai Constitution.
Another four pro-democracy activists in the ruling include Somyot Prueksakasemsuk, Juthathip Sirikhan, Siripatchara Jungthirapanich, and Arthitaya Pornprom.
The reading will be conducted at the Constitutional Court in Bangkok on November 10th.
This ruling could see the protesters face significant prison time and fines if convicted. However, if the protesters are not convicted, it could also provide the pro-democracy movement with renewed vigor, according to political analysts. The ruling will be watched closely by many as it will be a true test, according to analysts, about what the limit is of free speech in Thailand.
