Police raided an all-male party at a sauna in Wang Thong Lang after midnight yesterday, Saturday, (October 9th), and a total of ten people were arrested. According to Wang Thonglang police, they also seized various kinds of drugs.
Twenty police from the Children and Women’s Welfare Supervision Division and the Wang Thonglang Police raided a sauna at Soi Ramkhamhaeng 21 in Plubpla at 12:30 A.M.
Police arrived at the massive building following tips from an anonymous citizen with karaoke rooms, pools, a sauna, and 50 private rooms. In total, ten people were arrested including the venue owner, a 63-year-old Thai man. According to Bangkok police, the ten people arrested were found partying without masks or social distancing per Covid-19 rules in place and consuming drugs and alcohol. Police seized various kinds of drugs such as crystal methamphetamine and Viagra, according to their reports.
Colonel Theerachai Chamnanmor from the Children and Women’s Welfare Supervision Division told the associated Thai press, “This place was raided before in May this year for violating closure orders due to the risk of spreading Covid-19. Last time, 57 people were arrested. They are clearly either not aware of the law or are disregarding it and potentially spreading Covid-19 as they re-opened again.”
“The venue owner, Mr. Nu or Jae Nu, 63, has admitted the charges against him. He claimed that Bangkok police did not know they had reopened and thought they would be safe as they have less than 25 people gathered. He is clearly not aware that gathering limits do not apply to illegal parties, especially around alcohol, which remains against Covid-19 control measures. Of course, drug usage is always against the law as well.” Theerachai added.
“Mr. Nu is facing charges of breaking the emergency decree to control Covid-19, illegally selling alcohol, and operating an entertainment venue without a license, especially when all such venues have been ordered closed for six months due to Covid-19. Meanwhile, the other nine people arrested are facing charges of using illegal drugs.” Theerachai concluded.
The names of the nine people arrested were not released by Theerachai, however, all remained in custody as of press time according to his statements to the associated Thai press.
