Phuket and Samui to officially ease travel restrictions for fully vaccinated domestic tourists in mid-October

National –

Phuket and Samui authorities have officially approved the easing of travel restrictions for fully vaccinated domestic tourists to enter the islands, following the upcoming implementation of the government’s “We Travel Together” tourist campaign in mid-October.

There is a slight difference in terms of the restriction relaxation in both provinces. For Phuket, fully vaccinated DOMESTIC visitors, both foreign and Thai tourists, are welcomed without having to go through a Covid-19 test. For Samui, fully vaccinated tourists are allowed to enter the island without entering quarantine. In Phuket, unvaccinated tourists can enter but must have an approved test completed under medical/hospital supervision.

Both plans would be put into effect on October 15th in Samui and on the 16th in Phuket, respectively. They are introduced mainly to blend with the phase 3 registration of the “We Travel Together” tourism campaign which will start on October 15th.

Phuket governor Narong Woonciew added that the authorities were also planning to come up with a plan to effectively control the number of domestic infections while making the entry procedures uncomplicated for domestic tourists.

“Basically, the result of vaccination and/or Covid-19 swab results that were done before entering must be presented to the authorities. Our tracking application ‘www.gophuget.com’ must also be installed and developed continuously,” Narong stated.

Additionally, Surat Thani governor Witchawut Chinto told the Associated Press that incoming domestic tourists and returnees must show their vaccination record and ATK negative result that must be done not less than 7 days prior to the arrival.

The governor said: “Travelers must also install and register their profile in the “Samui Health Pass” mobile application and present their “Mor Chana” QR Code before entering and using any services of establishments in the area.”

According to the Koh Samui Disease Control Center official Facebook page, tourists must be vaccinated according to one of the following descriptions:

– 2 shots of Sinovac / Sinopharm / Sputnik vaccines
– Cross vaccination of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines
– 2 shots of AstraZeneca / Pfizer / Moderna
– A single shot of Johnson & Johnson
– An individual who has recently recovered from Covid-19 not more than 90 days or who has proved negative for the disease via RT-PCR or Antigen Test Kit (ATK) within 7 days.
– Dependent children up to 6 years who traveled with their parents
