Thailand’s Meteorological Department forecasts more rain nationwide caused by tropical storm “Kompasu”

The Thai Meteorological Department today, October 13th, reported 7-day weather forecasts of more rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rain all over Thailand caused by tropical storm “Kompasu” from today through to the 18th of October.

In general, between October 12th – the 16th, a monsoon trough lies across the Central, the East, and the lower Northeast while a strong southwest monsoon prevails across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, causing more rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rain in the North, the Northeast, the Central area including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the South.

During the 17th – the 18th, high-pressure air from China is forecast to extend to the North and the Northeast of Thailand with isolated rain over the areas. The monsoon trough will move down to lie across the lower Central, the upper South, and the East with thundershowers while the southwest monsoon will weaken with less rain over the South (west coast). The wind and waves over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will also weaken.

In northern Thailand, scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected between October 12th – the 16th while isolated thundershowers are forecast during the 17th – the 18th with a minimum temperature of 22°C and a maximum temperature of 35°C.

In northeastern Thailand, scattered thundershowers are expected between the 12th and the 16th while isolated heavy to very heavy rain is during the 12th and the 14th – 15th of  October. Isolated thundershowers will be forecast from the 17th to the 18th with a minimum temperature of 21°C and a maximum temperature of 32°C.

In central Thailand, scattered to fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain is forecast during the 12th – the 16th while isolated to scattered thundershowers are expected from the 17th to the 18th.

For Bangkok and its vicinity, scattered to fairly widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast throughout the period with a minimum temperature of 24°C and a maximum temperature of 34°C.

In eastern Thailand, which includes Chonburi and Pattaya, scattered to fairly widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy to very heavy rain are expected throughout the period. Waves are forecast to be about 2-3 meters and above 2 meters in thundershowers during 12 – 16 October and about 1-2 meters and about 2 meters in thundershowers on the 17th and the 18th.

In southern provinces, scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are forecast throughout the period. For the east coast, waves are forecast to be about 2 meters and above 2 meters in thundershowers during 12 – 16 October in the and about 1 meter and about 1-2 meters in thundershowers during the 17th – the 18th.

For the west coast, waves are forecast to be about 2-3 meters and above 3 meters in thundershowers during 12 – 16 October in the and about 1-2 meter and about 2 meters in thundershowers during the 17th – the 18th.

The department also warned people in the risky areas to beware of heavy rain and its accumulation that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially during 12 – 16 October.

All ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand should proceed with caution and keep away from thundershowers. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf should keep ashore.
