2-kilometer-long road connecting motorways to U-tapao Airport planned to reduce traffic, starting in 2022

Chonburi –

The Department of Highways is planning to construct a 2-kilometer-long road connecting two major motorways and U-tapao Airport to improve traffic, starting in 2022.

An approximately 4.5 billion baht budget will be estimated for the project which would take about three years of construction, according to the department officials during the meeting with Chonburi and Rayong authorities earlier this week, November 2nd.

The route will begin from Motorway No. 7 at the toll gate area in U-Tapao, past the Artillery Regiment Marine Division, and connect with the new entrance of the U-Tapao Airport, located at the intersection of Motorway No. 3 (Sukhumvit Road). The total distance of the route is approximately 2 kilometers.

Some parts of the roads are designed with elevation. A loop ramp is planned to reduce heavy traffic from the Sattahip district of Chon Buri all the way to the airport in Rayong province.

Two on-off Ramp constructions are also planned to facilitate those traveling on Motorway No. 7 and No.3 (Sukhumvit Road) from Sattahip district to the U-Tapao toll gate and from the toll gate to Rayong province.

After this meeting, the Department of Highways will consider all information and suggestions from all sectors in improving the design details and construction measures to prevent and reduce environmental impact as much as possible. Various action plans will also be considered to include in the summarizing report of the project.

According to the officials, the construction will start in 2022 and is expected to open for service in 2025.
