A large number of unauthorized ATK test kits and illegal medical types of equipment, worth more than 5 million baht in value, were found and confiscated at two warehouses in the Bang Kapi district of Bangkok, the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) announced today, November 8th.
CCPD commander Anan Nanasombat announced the reports of the search of two warehouses in Bang Kapi, Bangkok following receiving a tip-off revealing that there was smuggling of Covid-19 test kits, medical supplies, and several kinds of Type 3 dangerous substances without legal permission from the FDA during high demand in the pandemic situation.
Upon the raid, a large amount of ATK test kits, facial masks, PPE clothing, finger pulse Oximeters, thermometers, packages of dishwashing soap, laundry products, and anti-virus ‘Shut Out’ necklaces were found at the scene, with an estimated value of more than 5 million baht.
The expanded investigation led to the identification of a company that reportedly managed the smuggling. They could be facing the maximum penalty of imprisonment for 10 years and/or a fine of 1,000,000 baht for importing unregistered/fake and selling medical pieces of equipment under the Medical Device Act B.E. 2551.
Moreover, they will also be charged for violating the Hazardous Substance Act B.E. 2535, for importing type 3 hazardous substances and unauthorized hazardous substances without permission, facing the maximum of three-year imprisonment and/or 300,000-baht fine.
The name of the company, however, was not immediately released due to the ongoing investigation and Thai law, according to the CPPD.
