Thai House of Representatives to form extraordinary committee to consider legal casinos, PM expresses no opinion

Bangkok –

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha today, December 3rd, refused to express his opinion towards legal casinos in the form of an ‘Entertainment Complex’ after the House of Representatives meeting has agreed in principle to form an extraordinary commission for considering and studying the proposal.

This followed yesterday’s meeting which was voting for the establishment of the extraordinary committee to study the opening of the Entertainment Complex, including legal casinos, to boost domestic tourism and economy as proposed by Thai Civilized Party leader Mongkolkit Suksintharanon.

The MPs and senators have voted 310-9 in its favor with 10 abstentions. The committee, therefore, will consist of 60 people, including 15 members from the cabinet and 45 MPs from multiple political parties, in order to study and research the opening within 90 days.

When being asked about the establishment, the Prime Minister only stated to the press that it was a matter of the House of Representatives and the extraordinary committee that would consider the appropriateness.

“It is in the regard of the committee because I didn’t make a proposal and refused to give any opinion. Personally, I couldn’t give any answer as it is a matter of the people.”
