Thailand discovered a total of 2,899 daily Covid-19 infections with 22 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, December 19th.
The fatalities were 7 men and 15 women with the most numbers recorded in Chiang Mai with 3. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 29 and 88 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (10), diabetes (4), hyperlipidemia (5), obesity (2), and kidney disease (5). Four of the fatalities were bedridden patients.
Of the new cases, 2,802 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 22 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 21 were from prisons, and the remaining 54 were imported cases.
A number of 41,793 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 928 patients are in critical condition including 249 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.22 percent of cases that are critical while 26.8 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 395, followed by Chonburi with 197, Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 185, Samut Prakan with 133, Khon Kaen with 115, and Songkhla with 97.
A total number of 376,281 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 89,262 people had received their first shots, 137,385 people had received their second shots, and 149,634 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 70.1% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 61.5% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 6.8% have had a third booster shot.
As of today, 4,389 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,191,528 cases with 2,128,358 recoveries and a total of 21,377 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, local media reported five new cases of Omicron infections at Phuket International Airport this morning, including four foreigners and one local resident from Pattani.
Provincial public health chief Kusak Kukiatkul told the press that all of the foreign travelers are now isolated at a local hospital while the Thai patient, who had just returned from a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, requested to receive treatment at Pattani hospital since the first day of the disease detection on December 17th.
Moreover, about 20 people traveling to the island between December 13th-14th from 4 international flights are reported in the high-risk group. All of them are currently quarantined and closely monitored for suspicious symptoms.
