Thailand discovered a total of 2,532 daily Covid-19 infections with 31 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, December 22nd.
The fatalities were 18 men and 13 women with the most numbers recorded in Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 4. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 38 and 97 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (16), diabetes (9), hyperlipidemia (9), obesity (3), and kidney disease (3). One of the fatalities was a bedridden patient.
Of the new cases, 2,393 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 50 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 48 were from prisons, and the remaining 41 were imported cases.
A number of 38,202 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 845 patients are in critical condition including 231 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.21 percent of cases that are critical while 27.3 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 421, followed by Chonburi with 150, Samut Prakan with 128, Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 71, Khon Kean with 70, and Tak with 70.
A total number of 444,037 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 81,746 people had received their first shots, 166,334 people had received their second shots, and 195,957 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 70.4% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 62.0% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 7.3% have had a third booster shot.
As of today, 3,191 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,199,061 cases with 2,139,388 recoveries and a total of 21,471 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has also approved the fourth booster dose for medical frontliners and personnel as well as including patients with chronic diseases and/or with a weak immune system who have already received the third dose vaccine for 3 months or more, according to Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control Department (DDC).
