Maya Bay in Krabi reopens for the first day after roughly a three-year closure

Krabi –

Many tourists visited Maya Bay in Ao Nang on the first day of reopening after roughly three years of being closed to tourists, both domestic and foreign, to allow the environment to recover.

The official reopening was led by Krabi Governor Puttipong Sirimart and the Director of the Area Management Conservation Office 5 Mr. Yongyut Nakwiroj.

Mr. Yongyut told the Associated Thai Press, “Tourists can visit Maya Bay from 7:00 A.M to 6:00 P.M. 375 tourists can visit the bay each round for one hour. There are in total 4,125 tourist “slots” per day. For today the entry fee was free as the New Year was a gift for tourists.”

“Visitors are not allowed to go into the water but they can walk and relax on the beach. If anyone breaks the no swimming rule we will take legal action. We want to preserve rare marine animals in the Bay. There are more than 100 Blacktip Reef Sharks living in the bay and lots of Painted Spiny Lobsters.”

It has been reported that tour boats were not enough for tourists on the first day of the reopening.
