Thailand discovered a total of 8,511 daily Covid-19 infections with 12 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 9th.
The fatalities were 8 men and 4 women with the most numbers recorded in Chiang Mai with 3. 10 of them were Thai nationals, one was a Chinese national, and one was unidentified. The age range was between 29 and 93 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (7), diabetes (2), hyperlipidemia (1), obesity (1), and kidney disease (1). Two of the fatalities were bedridden patients.
Of the new cases, 7,942 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 199 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 20 were from prisons, and the remaining 350 were imported cases.
A number of 53,858 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 484 patients are in critical condition including 113 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.89 percent of cases that are critical while 23.3 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Chonburi with 921, followed by Samut Prakan with 669, Bangkok with 548, Nonthaburi with 436, Phuket with 416, and Ubon Ratchathani with 409.
A total number of 383,002 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 38,795 people had received their first shots, 116,106 people had received their second shots, and 228,101 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 71.5% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 65.0% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 11.1% have had a third booster shot.
As of today, 2,605 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,269,550 cases with 2,193,867 recoveries and a total of 21,799 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
