Thai pro-democracy protest leader Rung granted bail extension until mid-June

Bangkok –

The Thai Criminal Court yesterday, January 13th, granted a bail extension and eased some movement restrictions for pro-democracy protest leader Panusaya “Rung” Sithijirawattanakul until June 15th, 2022.

Rung, who was facing lese mejeste and sedition charges for several pro-democracy demonstrations since 2020, arrived for a court hearing at the Criminal Court in Bangkok this morning after her bail was scheduled to expire yesterday.

According to the verdict, Rung is now granted a bail extension until mid-June and allowed to leave her residence between 6:00 AM. and 6:00 PM. instead of the previous 24-hour curfew.

Her tracking bracelet attached to her ankle to track her movements and activities was also removed as her curfew was revoked.
