Thai transgender arrested at Phuket hotel for alleged human trafficking and child exploitation

Phuket –

A Thai transgender who self-identifies as female was arrested at a hotel in Phuket on Thursday, January 20th, for allegedly arranging human trafficking and child exploitation against children under the age of 18 years.

Supalak Chumphan, 37, was wanted by local police as she was reportedly offering the exploitation of children for prostitution, mostly with girls under the age of 18, on Twitter. She reportedly used a Twitter account named “Pepsi” to find potential customers before contacting and making deals with her clients on the LINE mobile application. The undercover police then contacted the account, saying that they wanted to use the service at a local hotel in the Mueang district. On Wednesday, the alleged suspect was found sending off the young girls at the scene before the police immediately presented themselves and made the arrest. Initially, Supalak allegedly confessed to her allegations of human trafficking, procuring, and arranging child exploitation against children between 15 to 18 years old. She would be transferred for further interrogation and legal proceedings in Bangkok. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=–=–=–=–==- Need Covid-19 insurance for your next trip to Thailand? Click here.
