Former Thai staffer arrested after cameras allegedly found in bathrooms at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok

Bangkok –

A former Thai male staffer has been arrested after hidden cameras were allegedly found in bathrooms at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok.

Major General Khemmarin Hassiri, the Commander of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Royal Thai Police said, “It is true what foreign media have reported about a former male  Thai staffer from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and he was arrested last month (January).”

TPN media notes, however, that the suspect was since released on bail.

“The man hid cameras in woman toilets at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. The embassy has filed a report to the Lumphini Police.” Khemmarin added.

Meanwhile, the Lumphini Police Chief Colonel Nimit Nooponthong has refused to give any detail to media. He gave the reason that since this case involves a foreign embassy multiple agencies are involved and an in-depth investigation is ongoing.

However, the foreign Australian press has revealed what they say are details from the case, although these details were not confirmed or denied by Royal Thai Police officials.

You can read a report about the incident from the Sydney Morning Herald here, although TPN notes that their statements and opinions are entirely their own and are not associated with TPN media.
