Chonburi –

The Pattaya Police chief warned local restaurants and shops not to sell and serve all kinds of alcoholic beverages on Makha Bucha Day (A religious holiday) tomorrow, February 16th, as they could face strict legal prosecution.

Police Colonel Kulachart Kulchai revealed that due to the occasion of the important Buddhist day “Makha Bucha Day” tomorrow, the police would like to notify all shop operators and the public to refrain from selling and drinking alcoholic beverages for the whole day of Wednesday, February 16th, from 00.00 AM. to 11:59 PM. TPN media notes this is a NATIONAL ban on religious holidays.

The sales ban applies to all serving venues, including convenience stores, supermarkets, hotels, and restaurants. Technically, bars are legally closed due to Covid-19 and have been since April 10th, 2021, although many have reopened as temporary “restaurants”. They will not be allowed to serve alcohol and as a result, most will be closed for the day. The day also brings closure of government offices, such as Immigration.

Those who violated would face possible legal charges for violating Section 39 of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act. The penalties were imprisonment for a term of not exceeding 6 months or a fine of not exceeding 10,000 baht or both.
