Contaminated chemicals found dumped on Mae Ramphueng Beach of Rayong, petroleum company SPRC demands serious investigation

Rayong –

Contaminated chemicals were found purposely left on Mae Ramphueng Beach of Rayong near the site of a crude oil spill from the Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC) on Saturday night, February 19th.

The SPRC representatives prepared to file complaints to local police after they found the chemically contaminated sand had been dumped, in what appeared to be a purposeful act, on Mae Ramphueng Beach in front of the Royal Rayong Hotel at around 10:00 PM. on Saturday.

According to the initial examination, the chemical stains were mixed with sand on the beach and had a strong pungent odor. The SPRC officials then packed samples in a large bag and requested a police examination. The intention of the dumpage was not yet known but it was believed that the bag was intentionally left to either discredit the company or worsen the oil spill situation, potentially to allow a party or parties more financial compensation from SPRC, who had already agreed to assist those affected.

As of press time, a police investigation is reportedly ongoing, including reviewing CCTV cameras in the area. For more about the previous oil leak situation, please click here.
