Election date for Bangkok governor and Pattaya mayor likely to be on May 29th, according to local media

Bangkok / Pattaya –

The election date for Bangkok governor and Pattaya mayor was likely to be held on May 29th, local media reported yesterday, March 6th.

Local reporters stated that the Ministry of Interior would propose the election date to the Cabinet for consideration on Tuesday, March 8th. After the Cabinet approved the proposal, the Secretariat of the Cabinet would inform the finalized resolution to the Election Commission of Thailand.

However, the Election Commission must hold a meeting to announce the date of the election before local election directors could announce the election.

Subsequently, there would be the process of accepting applications for election followed by other additional steps such as the announcement of applicants list, the announcement of eligible voters, etc.

As for the election day, it was reported that it was likely to be held on Sunday, May 29th, for both Bangkok and Pattaya City. However, it is worth noting that this is not an official announcement yet.

TPN media notes that if this date is finalized, there will be an alcohol sales ban for areas that are voting, even for those who cannot vote, from the evening of the night before until ballots close on election day, usually 5:00 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. the day before until the same time the next day, which will close all bars and entertainment venues and ban even alcohol sales at grocery stores and restaurants. This is a Thai law for elections.
