The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced ease of alcohol drinking hours until 11:00 PM., effective today, March 15th.
The announcement stated that meetings, seminars, events, and similar gatherings can be organized in hotels, exhibition centers, convention centers, exhibition venues, department stores, shopping centers, community malls, meeting facility venues, and other similar places by complying following requirements:
- Organizers must strictly act in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health collaborating with the Office of Convention and Exhibition Promotion.
- Alcoholic beverages drinking is only allowed in restaurants/places which are certified with SHA Plus or Thai Stop Covid 2 Plus.
- Alcoholic beverages service is allowed no later than 11:00 PM.
- The number of customers/participants in the event shall be considered in line with the BMA’s guidelines for the implementation of Notification No. 45, issued on October 30th.
Editor’s take: Confused? Well, technically, bars and related venues are still legally closed under Covid-19 regulations. Previous alcohol easings have been geared at restaurants or “converted restaurants” which are essentially bars. This easing officially removes grey areas of hotels, seminars, events, and other places that may serve alcohol, allowing them to do so. However, technically, bars and nightlife and entertainment venues remain legally closed until further notice, although as stated, many are now considered “restaurants”.
