Mr. Zhentao Yang, a 40-year-old Chinese man, was arrested yesterday, the 16th of March 2022, for allegedly defrauding and violating the Computer Crime Act through a fake Bitcoin investment.
Earlier this year (2022), Mr. Zhentao Yang and his accomplice reportedly used a Facebook account namely “Num Thip” to befriend Mr. Woraphon, 58, the victim, before allegedly deceiving him into investing in Bitcoin through his counterfeit website. According to the report, the first few investments would still be profitable until Mr. Woraphon lowered his guard and increasingly invested more money in the website before he realized that he could not withdraw his money anymore.
In total, Mr. Woraphon had lost 1,500,000 Baht before reporting the case to the Don Hua Lor police station, Chonburi, which led to the arrest of Mr. Zhentao Yang at The Privilege Laemchabang village, Bueng subdistrict, Si Racha District, Chonburi.
Due to the investigation, Mr. Zhentao was still in denial of owing the Facebook account and admitted to only bringing in customers and hiring a Thai person to open a bank account for him. Initially, he was transferred to the Don Hua Lo police station for further investigation.
