RECAP: Thailand announces 24,996 daily Covid-19 infections with 84 additional deaths

Thailand reported a total of 24,996 daily Covid-19 infections with 84 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, March 20th.

The fatalities were 44 men and 40 women with the highest rate in Bangkok with 14. 18 of them were Thai nationals, two were Myanmar nationals and one was a Kuwait national. The age range was between 1 and 98 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including cancer (7), kidney disease (20), obesity (5), stroke (6), and heart disease (16). Three of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 24,699 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 93 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 173 were from prisons, and the remaining 31 were imported cases.

A number of 240,139 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 1,432 patients are in critical condition including 521 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.59 percent of cases that are critical while 36.3 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 2,880, followed by Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 1,637, Chonburi with 1,191,Samut Sakhon with 969, Samut Prakan with 907, and Chachoengsao with 629.

A total number of 221,662 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 80,434 people had received their first shots, 19,935 people had received their second shots, and 121,293 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 78.9% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 72.0% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 32.1% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 22,292 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 3,353,969 cases with 3,089,584 recoveries and a total of 24,246 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
