Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana retorted opposition to Thai Srang Thai Party Leader Sudarat Keyuraphan on social media following her criticism against the government’s suggestion to reduce electricity costs by limiting air conditioning.
The Thai government’s suggestion to limit air conditioning, as well as usage of other electric appliances, had been made earlier this week following criticism from social media “netizens” over rising costs associated with various factors, including according to the government the Russia-Ukraine war.
Thanakorn said on his Facebook status: ” I saw Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, chairman of the Thai Srang Thai Party, posted a Facebook status that no matter how people tried to save costs, they couldn’t still survive. Because the problem was not how many degrees they had to turn on the air conditioner, but the problem was the leadership’s vision…”
“So, I can’t help but wonder if Khunying Sudarat didn’t really understand, or pretend not to be smart. I confirmed that turning an air-con at 27 degrees Celsius simultaneously with a fan would help to save electricity costs rather than turning the air-con at 23-24 degrees Celsius.”
“The air filter should be cleaned every month and the air conditioner every 6 months to help save 10-30 percent costs on electricity bills. Not using heating appliances such as hair dryers and irons in air conditioning rooms would also help.”
In the end, he concluded that the problem with Thai politics was not the vision of the leader but was rather because some politicians couldn’t keep up with the leader’s vision and couldn’t be a good follower, so they were afraid to become forgotten. Therefore, they came out to discredit the government everyday and hope that people wouldn’t forget their names.
