Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi holds talks with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in China, pledges closer cooperation

  China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in Tunxi, Anhui Province in China on Saturday, April 2nd.

Wan Yi firstly mentioned that China was ready to advance all kinds of cooperation with Thailand to be at the forefront of regional cooperation. Both sides should accelerate the construction of the China-Thailand Railway at a faster pace to connect it northward with the China-Laos Railway and southward with the Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Railway in order to complete the pan-Asia railway network.

He also mentioned both countries should take the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) as an opportunity to enhance the potential of economic and trade cooperation as well as the cooperation in electronic technology, digital economy, new energy, and other fields. China would support Chinese enterprises in the construction of key projects in Thailand as well as the demonstration effects of the China-Thailand Rayong Industrial Park and other initiatives, such as China-ASEAN parks of international industrial capacity cooperation and green industrial parks. Cooperation should also be made to speed up vaccine packaging and production as well as anti-pandemic drug research and development.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said that Thailand attached great importance and consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and stood ready to foster high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with China and participate in the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping.

Thailand hoped to expand cooperation in agricultural trade under the security of industrial and supply chains and deepen cooperation in sustainable development. Don also thanked China for providing convenience for Thai enterprises who invested in China.

Both sides agreed to push forward the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership and strengthen pragmatic cooperation under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism. Wang Yi stated that China welcomed and supported the fact that Thailand would once again co-chair the LMC mechanism.

The two sides continued to discuss strengthening multilateral cooperation. The Chinese Foreign Minister said that world peace and development needed to be defended urgently due to the current chaotic international situation. The stability and prosperity of Asia need to be cared for. He also stated that China is ready to strengthen coordination and pool more consensus with Thailand and Indonesia in three important meetings with global influence, namely the BRICS Summit, APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and the Group of Twenty Summit, to send a voice that Asian countries are committed to peace and development. The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine/Russia armed conflict and the Myanmar situation.
