The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported today, April 15th, of 324 road accidents with 332 injured and 41 casualties during the seven dangerous days of Songkran, the Thai New Year, road campaign.
The most frequent cause of accidents yesterday shifted to high-speed driving (35.19%), followed by drunk driving (32.41%). The most accident-prone vehicles were still motorcycles (84.23%), followed by pickup trucks (5.06%). And, most accidents occured on highways (37.04%) and local roads (33.33%).
The province with the most accidents and casualties was Chiang Mai with 14 accidents and 16 people injured. And the province with the most casualties were Lampang and Sa Kaeo each with 3 casualties.Â
So far, the cumulative number of accidents in the last four days were 1,195 with 1,185 people injured and 157 killed: Chiang Mai with the most accidents (44), Nakhon Si Thammarat with the most people injured (43), and Lampang with the most deaths (7).Â
Thai police urged people who witnessed or got into an accident to dial 1784 or add Line ID @1784DDPM for further assistance.Â
