 The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) believed that international tourism would be significantly revived after the government had scrapped the RT-PCR testing, and basically the entire Test and Go program, for international arrivals before entering the Kingdom.
TCC Chairman Sanan Angubolkul said after the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) ended the ‘Test&Go’ scheme and mandatory health testing yesterday, April 22nd, that he would like to thank the government for listening to the entrepreneurs’ outcry. He believed that the cancellation on May 1st would bring trading, investment, and tourism back to life.
“Trading and service sectors would recover faster. Private sectors would also help support entrepreneurs to help comply with various measures to prevent the Covid-19 spread, such as campaigning for booster vaccinations, in the future,” Sanan stated.
The TCC had also proposed Phase 5 of the ‘Half-Half’ government campaign for the authorities’ consideration as the public still did not drive consumer spending as much as they did in the pre-Covid period. The government should provide 1,500 baht per person to boost spending in the system, according to the TCC. The TCC estimated that by granting phase 5, the GDP could increase by 0.63-0.65 percent this year, which would help Thailand’s overall GDP growth to be more than 3 percent.
Moreover, the TCC estimated that if diesel fuel price was increased by 10 percent due to the end of excise tax reductions in May, businesses would still be able to support the fixed price for another 3 months. However, the government should urgently prepare for the measures, both short term and long term, for dealing with this rising of the price estimated to be as high as 35-36 baht per liter in order to reduce the impact on the economic situation.
