Bangkok –
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha departed from Bangkok this morning, May 11th, to attend the second ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit in Washington D.C. between May 12th and the 13th.
Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana told the Associated Press that the Prime Minister received a meeting invitation from US President Joe Biden. This working visit is an opportunity for ASEAN member countries and the United States to celebrate the 45th anniversary of its relations.
Prime Minister Prayut, other ASEAN country’s leaders/representatives, and the US President will meet in person to exchange views on various issues in order to determine the direction of ASEAN-US relations in the future, especially upon the issues of the regeneration and sustainable growth of the regions in the post-Covid-19 period and the constructive role of the United States in the regions.
Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai and Energy Minister Supattanapong Phanmechaow also joined the visit to the United States, the government spokesperson added.
On May 12th, the Prime Minister will participate in a lunch meeting for ASEAN country leaders with the leaders of the US Congress. He will meet representatives of US businessmen at the US Department of Commerce before the US President will host a dinner for ASEAN leaders at the White House.
