Surat Thani –
It is expected that at least 6,000 tourists will join the next Full Moon Party on Pha-Ngan Island in Surat Thani province on May 16th, 2022.
Mr. Tawit Somwang, the president of Rin Beach tourism operators told TPN media reporters, “This upcoming Full Moon Party will be under the concept of ‘Back to the Roots’. We are expecting about 6,000 to 7,000 tourists will join the party. However, it will be no more than 10,000 tourists as it is still the low season and there are still some roadblocks to international tourism like Thailand Pass discouraging some potential visitors. The next full party after May 16th will be next month on June 14th.”
Ms. Nantawan Siripokkapan, the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Surat Thani office told associated Thai media, “During this long holiday from May 13th to May 16th there are 53,541 tourists visiting Surat Thani which 36,721 are Thais and 16,820 are foreigners.”
“Hotels and resorts booking rates are at 39.76 percent which is about 2.61 days. The total income will be about 484.77 million baht of which 295.32 million baht are from Thai tourists while 189.45 million Baht are from foreign tourists. Each person spends about 3,145.49 baht for Thai tourists and 3,797.51 baht for foreign tourists.” Nantawan stated.
“Many factors which attract tourists to Surat Thani are tourism events and promotions such as ‘Playing Golf at Surat’ and ‘Amazing Surat on Sale’. Famous events and tourist places are the Full Moon Party on Pha-Ngan Island, Tao Island (Nang Yuan Island), Ratchaprapa Dam (Chaew Lan Dam), and Khao Sok National Park.” Nantawan added.
“There are about 15 to 17 flights to Samui Island and 10 to 12 flights currently running regularly to Surat Thani. We have increased more ferries and speedboats from Samui Island to Pha-Ngan Island, Catamaran from Chumphon to Tao Island, and Samui Island to Tao Island,” Ms. Nantawan added.
TPN media notes that during Covid-19 some critics predicted that Full Moon Parties would never return after Covid-19, however, they appear to have been proven wrong with the parties resuming and increased attendance each month.
