Buriram province —

A grandson who was reportedly raised from birth by an 80-year-old grandmother allegedly murdered his grandmother in front of his grandfather. The suspect was allegedly under the influence of drugs.

At 11:00 a.m. yesterday, May 18th, Police Lieutenant Thongsuk Prongtalay responded to a crime report in the Nong Ki District, Buriram Province, allegedly committed by a 22-year-old male grandson upon his own 80-year-old grandmother.

At the crime scene, the grandson was reportedly found stomping on the grandmother in the middle of a local road while multiple witnesses who were mostly elderly and women could only stand and watch. The police then charged the grandson and took him to the police station. However, the grandmother who was badly injured could not withstand the pain and passed away at a nearby local hospital. The grandson was, according to police, under the heavy influence of drugs and could not testify comprehensively.

According to the grandmother’s husband (age and name not given), he mournfully said that while he and his wife were eating, the grandson suddenly appeared and dragged his wife by her hair to the road and hurt her. He implored the grandson to stop, but he did not listen. He tried to call the village headmaster for help, but they got chased away by the maniacal grandson before the police arrived and captured him. According to the husband, his wife had raised the suspect since he was born.

The grandmother’s daughter and aunt of the suspect (age and name not given) said that she could not tolerate the suspect’s action and pleaded with the police to punish him to the fullest extent of the law, including the death penalty. She also revealed that the suspect had undertaken several rehabilitation stints and been in jail repeatedly, but he kept committing vile deeds in the neighborhood. In fact, he has just recently returned from a rehabilitation center for just three days before committing this unspeakable act, the aunt said in grief.

The name of the suspect was not released by Nong Ki police.
