The Thailand Nightlight and Entertainment Business Association and representatives of artists, singers, entertainers, and night workers meeting General Supot Malaniyom, secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC), today, May 19th.
Association President Katawut Thongthai, or Ajarn/Artist Kai Marijuana, told the Associated Press yesterday, May 18th, that the meeting aimed to discuss the potential of business reopening and government assistance for entertainment venues.
He stressed that the government had responded and provided financial aid on some issues previously, such as a 5000-baht remedy for business entrepreneurs and employees, but such treatment did not solve the root cause. The only way to solve it was to allow the reopening of the nightlife business in full and not as converted restaurants with many restrictions and limited operating hours, which is the current situation.
“The establishments wished to resume normal service and drive the country’s economy without relying on government assistance. The Association also noticed that the Covid-19 situation in Thailand was getting better. Therefore, we would like to discuss ways to help operators of entertainment venues and measures to open entertainment venues, pubs, and bars with the government agencies,” Katawut addressed.
Meanwhile, local media also reported that the Ministry of Public Health would propose the color-rezoning of provinces and the reopening of such businesses in the green zone at the general meeting of the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Friday, May 20th.
