Thai Buddhism Office introduces hotline 1374 for the public to report monks misconduct

National –

The National Office of Buddhism encourages the public to report any misconduct among Buddhist monks via hotline 1374.

Deputy director Inthaphon Chan-iam told the Associated Press yesterday, May 19th, that following frequent reports and news of monks with inappropriate behaviors, the national office had assigned Buddhist provincial offices across the country to tighten its monitoring and patrolling temples in their responsible areas and frequently report the updates to the national office.

The National Office of Buddhism also coordinated with the provincial branches of the Internal Security Operations Command to access the cases as the monks’ misconducts also affected the stability of religious institutions.

Meanwhile, Inthaphon also encouraged people to alert the authorities of any misbehaviors among Buddhist monks via the office hotline of 1374. The officials would investigate the allegations before taking accused monks for disciplinary and legal procedures.
