Bangkok Gubernatorial Election starts today, residents arrive to cast their votes since this morning

Bangkok –

Bangkok residents are heading to various polling stations to cast their votes in the Bangkok Gubernatorial Election since this morning, May 22nd.

This is the first election for the Bangkok governor after a military coup took place in 2014, suspending the elections and appointing Aswin Kwanmeung as a Bangkok governor for 5 years.

Also, today, May 22nd, marks the eighth anniversary of the military coup led by General Prayut Chan-O’Cha to end the governance of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra who won the 2011 election in a landslide. The coup resulted in the abstraction of general and local elections nationwide, including the Bangkok governor and the Pattaya Mayor, for more than five years.

The voting runs from 8:00 AM. to 5:00 PM. on Sunday. Residents of Bangkok are gradually arriving at the polling station to exercise their votes. Many prominent Bangkok Gubernatorial candidates arrived since the vote started, including independent candidate Chadchart Sittipunt, Move Forward’s candidate Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, Democrat Party’s candidate Suchatvee Suwannasawat, and former Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmeung.

Many Thai stars also came to cast their ballots. One of them is Kiattisak “Sena Hoi” Udomnak who stated to the local media that he was glad to see many Bangkok voters present at the stations. He also wished that the new governor would seriously solve the chronic problems in the capital, especially traffic jams and flooding.
