Thailand’s Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to propose mask removal when filming game and variety shows to National Covid-19 Center

Bangkok –

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is preparing to propose a mask removal on game and variety show recordings at the next Covid center meeting on June 17th.

NBTC director Dr. Phirongrong Rammasut told the Associated Press today, June 8th, after the meeting with the committee that as the Covid-19 situation in Thailand is stable and is undergoing a transition into an endemic disease, the NBTC has adjusted the working guidelines for filming television programs in accordance with preventive measures as prescribed by the Ministry of Public Health, including the cancellation of the ATK self-administration and temperature check, the readjustment of social distancing measures, the readjustment of the risk management plan of the shooting team, the increasing measures for staff who are in high-risk groups, and the masks regulations for the on-set staff.

However, the committee was discussing whether the relaxation of removing masks when filming variety shows and dramas could be done under the regulation of regular ATK testing among the staff and the installation of social distancing partitions between one another.

Diao Woratangtrakul, Secretary of the Association of Digital Television Broadcasting (Thailand), added that workers in the television industry have always been cautious about the health safety of the operators because if an infected person was found, it will affect many people – not only of the health concerns but also business aspects. Many sets and studios are having regular ATK examinations every 3 days, performing social distancing and health surveillance. However, they admitted that using partitions and wearing masks and face shields had significantly affected the filming of all non-news programs.

The NBTC will introduce the proposals from television operators to the meeting of the Department of Disease Control and the NBTC official meeting to consider the relaxation of additional measures before being brought to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) meeting next Friday, June 17th.
