US Secretary and Thai Foreign Minister remark about MOU signing in Bangkok on Sunday

National –

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai today, July 10th, signed two Memorandums of Understanding to strengthen U.S.-Thai relations.

The MOUs include the Thailand-United States Communiqué on Strategic Alliance and Partnership and the Promoting Supply Chain Resilience.

The Thailand-United States Communiqué on Strategic Alliance and Partnership demonstrates the increasing breadth of U.S.-Thai cooperation and the deepening of the relationship since the 1962 Thanat-Rusk Communiqué.

It also highlights the width of partnership and the significance of shared priorities within the context of a free, open, sustainable, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region as well as emphasizing economic, law enforcement, climate, cyber security and technology, security, and health cooperation between both countries.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Promoting Supply Chain Resilience reflects the mutual benefit that Thailand and the United States recognize in coordination to reduce supply chain vulnerabilities, minimize disruptions in production and transportation, and ensure critical goods remain accessible to peoples of both countries and the broader global marketplace.

Under this MOU, both the United States and Thailand would enhance information sharing, consultation, and program development to further these shared interests and to advance the broadly shared prosperity of both nations.

Secretary Blinken stated during the agreement: “The COVID pandemic made clear how critical it is that we have reliable supply chains – for example, to ensure that people have access to lifesaving medicines and PPE. With these new agreements, our countries will do even more together to deliver for our people, making their lives safer, healthier, and more prosperous. That spirit of seeking shared progress has been inherent in our partnership from the start.”
