Three people, a dog, and a cat died while another person has sustained serious injuries after an intoxicated man high on methamphetamine fired many gunshots in Chiang Rai.
The Region 5 Police reports that the Mae Saruay Police were notified of the incident yesterday afternoon (July 14th) at the Ta Gea Village in Ta Gor sub-district, Mae Saruay district. They arrived at the scene to find three bodies of Mr. Jala Jalor, 38, Mrs Napoe Yapa, 45, and a four-year-old girl.
Mrs. Layare Japue, 61, had sustained severe gunshot injuries while two unnamed others sustained minor gunshot injuries. A dog and a cat were also found shot dead.
The prime suspect was hidden inside a public toilet in the village. Police took four hours to arrest the suspect who was later identified as Mr. Anucha Jaboe, 26, a known local resident. Seized from him was a rifle with loaded bullets. He was heavily intoxicated and high on methamphetamine, according to the police report. Anucha was taken to the Mae Saruay Police Station.
Police said Anucha didn’t have a permanent job and was well-known in the Ta Gea community. He allegedly often used methamphetamine and hurt others, allegedly including his own mother. He stole a rifle from the former vice village headman before going on a what police said was a drug and alcohol induced shooting rampage.
Police are continuing their investigation for further legal action. Anucha remained in custody without bail as of press time.
