Thailand ranked lowest in ASEAN countries to treat people with smiles, Gallup’s annual Global Emotions Report reveals

Gallup’s annual Global Emotions Report, a prominent research organization measuring people’s positive and negative experiences worldwide, has revealed its latest survey result of ‘A Southeast Asian Country That Treats People With a smile’. Thailand, often referred to as “The Land of Smiles.”, is ranked 9th.

The statistics were conducted on 1,000 respondents, aged 15 and over, from more than 100 countries between 2021 and early 2022. The survey found that ASEAN countries that are the friendliest and treat people with smiles the most are Indonesia, followed by Cambodia, and Laos, whereas Thailand was ranked ninth, accounting for 72 percent.

The results of the ranking survey are as follows:

1. Indonesia 90%
2. Cambodia 89%⁣
3. Laos 88%⁣
4. Vietnam 82%⁣
5. Philippines 81%⁣
6. Malaysia 81%⁣
7. Myanmar 77%⁣
8. Singapore 76%⁣
9. Thailand 72%⁣
