Eight people dead after minivan heading to temples overturns in Khon Kaen, driver survives and believed to have fallen asleep

Khon Kaen, Northeast –

Eight people died including reportedly a 9-year-old girl who survived the initial accident but later died in a hospital after a minivan heading to temples overturned in Khon Kaen.

Emergency responders were notified of the accident this morning (July 30th) on Khon Kaen – Kalasin bypass opposite Thug Settee Temple in Phra Lab sub-district, Mueang district.

They arrived at the scene to find the damaged minivan off the road in the ditch. Eight people have been pronounced dead including a nine year-old girl. The van was carrying all female passengers.

The driver, who survived with minor injuries and whose name was not released by authorities said there were in total nine passengers heading to a people in Chaiyaphum.

At this stage police believed the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Police have yet to identify if any charges will be pressed against the driver.
