Chonburi –

Srisuwan Chanya, Secretary-General of the Thai Constitution Protection Association, urged the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to take serious legal charges against the Interior Minister, the Chonburi Governor, and eight local police for neglecting their duties and the operation of the under-qualified ‘Mountain B’ entertainment venue.

Srisuwan on Monday, August 8th, arrived at the NACC to file a complaint against three groups of officials for neglecting the venue opening until it caused fire damage, killing fifteen people and injuring many others.

He told the Associated Press that despite the ‘Mountain B’ owner being arrested and waiting for legal prosecution by the Pattaya Provincial Court, the public still raised several questions and complaints, such as why the venue was allowed to open in the prohibited area?; Although the venue had applied for a license, why could the venue be operated when if according to the law, it should not be so?; and if the venue was previously charged for nuisance by Plu Ta Luang Police Station on July 16th, why didn’t the officials conduct an investigation against the venue since then as it was located in the prohibited area?, etc.

The Secretary-General continued that under the Entertainment Place Act B.E. 2509, the Minister of the Interior, General Anupong Paochinda, and the provincial governor, in this case, Pakathorn Tienchai, were assigned to be the law enforcement. The administrative-police department was also assigned to strictly monitor their responsible areas. However, such a tragic accident still occurred and became a great loss for everyone.

“The Interior Minister, Chonburi Governor, and the police in charge of the area must jointly take responsibility in this case, this is not the sole fault of the venue owner. Disciplinary penalties and relocation of staff are not enough. Therefore, the Thai Constitution Protection Association must come and urge the NACC to investigate and prosecute all those involved,” Srisuwan concluded.
