The Office of the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) on Wednesday, September 21st, has set May 7th, 2023, as the tentative date for the next general election.

According to Article 102 of the Thai Constitution, the general election must be held within 45 days after the end term of the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is tentatively to be on May 7, 2023, and the applications for political candidates will be available on April 3rd-7th.

Candidates are advised not to engage in activities that are likely to affect individuals’ favor or offering anything that tends to convince eligible voters within the 180 days before the House of Representative’s end term on March 23rd. The official announcement of the date of elections will be confirmed on March 31st, 2023.

However, in case there was a parliament dissolution prior to the House’s end term, the EC must set an election date after the decree’s announcement on the dissolution between 45 to 60 days.
