The Royal Gazette announced the Ministry of Public Health’s notification of the health examination and consultation guidelines on alternative abortion under Section 305 of the Criminal Code B.E. 2522, Deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisornkul revealed on Tuesday, September 27th.

The notice emphasizes women who are over 12 weeks but under 20 weeks pregnant are allowed to seek a legal abortion without facing a criminal offence. But, the consultation must be by medical practitioners who are abiding by the rules and procedures prescribed by the Minister of Public Health.

The announcement will be put into effect after 30 days from the date of its publication, or around the end of October.

The deputy government spokeswoman also stated that the consultation process will be done fairly to pregnant women without criticism, judgement, or force. It was all up to an individual’s choice and willingness to provide voluntary abortion services and reduce women’s motivation to conduct illegal and unhealthy abortions.
