Thai skateboarder arrested after allegedly attacking Canadian tourist in Bangkok

Bangkok —

One of two Thai skaters who allegedly smacked the head of a Canadian tourist with a skateboard in Bangkok was arrested.

The suspect was a Thai adult named Mr. Phawit “Ken” Hongharuchai, 33. He was nabbed after escaping to his residence in the Nonthaburi province for collaboratively attacking an unnamed Canadian tourist on Khao San Road in Bangkok on Thursday, October 6th.

According to CCTV footage, Mr. Phawit and his unidentified friend were violently attacking the lone Canadian victim, while another unidentified woman was trying to stop them. He reportedly confessed to hitting the victim’s head with a skateboard before escaping, citing that the victim had tried to hit on his girlfriend.

Mr. Phawit was captured yesterday, October 7th, while his friend was still on the loose. The Canadian tourist who still could not be identified as of press time suffered serious head injuries and was at Hua Chiew Hospital to recover. Police Commissioner-General Pol General Damrongsak Kittiprapha shamed the incident, saying it was a disgrace to Thailand’s reputation.
