Phuket is expecting to generate at least two billion baht over this long four-day holiday weekend.
The Phuket Tourism Authority Office Director Ms. Nantasiri Ronnari told the Phuket Express, “Over these four holidays from October 13th to October 16th there are 24,370 international visitors from 137 flights in 29 airlines arriving while 28,038 Thai visitors from 217 flights in seven airlines are arriving.”
“We are expecting about 152,691 visitors in Phuket during these long holidays which we believe will generate at least two billion baht.” Ms. Nantasiri concluded.
Weather has remained favorable so far bringing many tourists, domestic and international both, to the island and beaches. Restaurants and entertainment venues have appeared to be busy, especially in the Patong area, throughout the weekend so far. Luckily, there have been no major reported problems or issues so far affecting tourists and visitors.
Phuket police have also stepped up patrols and enforcement, pledging to keep all visitors safe who are coming for the holiday. This comes as part of a national crackdown on illegal drugs and firearms for the month of October, partially due to the tragic mass shooting/stabbing last week of a daycare center in Nong Bua Lamphu that killed dozens, mostly children.
The holiday is due to the six year anniversary of the sad death of His Royal Majesty King Rama IX The Great, which was on October 13th.
