Phangan Island, Surat Thani –
A body that was found on Phangan Island has been confirmed as a missing Russian man.
Our previous story:
The Phangan Police were notified from a Myanmar national who was exploring a wooded area that human remains were found in a thick forest near the Kee Rad Hill which is one kilometer from the Phangan Hospital.
Now for our updates story:
The Surat Thani Immigration Chief Officer Colonel Supparuek Pankosol told the local press additional details, “A bag was found near the body with a passport that positively identified Mr. NIKITA GRIGOREV, 30, a Russian national with four pictures and 300 baht in the bag.”
“Last month Mr. PAVEL CHETVERTINOVSKII, 35, Russian national, had filed a report to the Koh Phangan Police that his friend Mr. NIKITA had gone missing from the Koh Phangan Hospital while he was being treated for depression.”
“Police launched a search and checked CCTV footage but failed to find him until his body was found one month later in a heavily wooded area. However his cause of death has yet to be identified,” Colonel Supparuek added.
There was no sign of foul play, Colonel Supparuek stated. Police are currently working on the assumption that the Russian man fled the hospital into the jungle, became disoriented and lost, and passed away.
