Pattaya —

A 57-year-old British tourist chose to complain to the press about his dissatisfaction with what he called Pattaya police’s sluggish performance after his safe box containing 8,500 GBP (around 360,000 baht) was allegedly stolen by an Ugandan woman on October 2nd, 2022.

The victim, Mr. Steven Paul S., reported his grievance to the Thai media, saying his cash and important documents in a safe box were stolen by a 26-year-old Ugandan, Ms. Namatovu (her last name was withheld pending an investigation).

The British victim stated that he invited Ms. Namatovu to his hotel room on Soi Chaloem Phrakiat 21 on Central Pattaya Third Road just to hang out and watch a movie. While falling asleep, however, the suspect allegedly took his safe box and fled from his room at 03:45 AM on October 2nd. The victim filed a report to Pattaya police at 05:00 AM immediately after he realized that his safe was gone.

After half a month, Pattaya police could only retrieve a safe box, which obviously was empty, and return it to Mr. Steven. Since then, he received no further updates from police, which he said really disappointed him because he was currently in deep trouble, having to live on borrowed money and being unable to go back to his homeland as all his important documents were stolen.

“I do not want all my money back. I just want the suspect to be arrested so that she cannot steal from anybody else,” Mr. Steven told local media.

There is no response from Pattaya police as of press time, TPN notes. We will provide an update as soon as it becomes available.
