Pattaya prepares to welcome visitors during APEC summit holidays

Pattaya —

Pattaya City is getting ready for an influx of visitors during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit special holidays.

The Thai Cabinet has declared November 16th to 18th during the APEC summit as special holidays in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakan.

In essence, this means a five-day holiday weekend for many in and around Bangkok and those trying to get out of the big city as world leaders converge on Bangkok. Local hotel leaders in Pattaya have already reported strong demand for hotel rooms across Pattaya during the holiday period.

Pattaya City is preparing tourist attractions such as Koh Larn and Nong Nooch Tropical Garden to welcome visitors in anticipation of a high volume of visitors during this period.

To welcome visitors, Noong Nooch Tropical Garden is launching a buy-one-get-one ticket promotion for Thai nationals. The visitors can watch elephant shows that will run two times a day for only 100 baht as well as take a leisurely stroll down the flower garden.

Visitors are expected to increase, so Pattaya officials warn drivers of traffic jams in many areas. There is also expected to be increased security during APEC with special focus on entertainment venues and illegal drugs and weapons. Pattaya police are also stepping up security across the area including on local beaches that have become popular hangout areas for Thai youth at night.

There are no APEC meetings in Pattaya and no world leaders are expected to come to the area for a holiday, however, tens of thousands of Bangkokians with five days off certainly will so our readers should prepare for a very busy week ahead!
