Fire damages ferry at pier on Sirey Island, Phuket – VIDEO

  A fire has damaged a ferry parked at a pier on Sirey Island, Mueang Phuket.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket (DDPM Phuket) was notified of the fire at 6:00 A.M. this morning (December 11th) at a pier on Sirey Island in the Rassada sub-district.

Firefighters and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find the fire was heavily ablaze at the ferry parked at the pier. It took about one hour to control the fire.

The Phuket Marine Director told the Phuket Express that the fire started from the front of the boat before spread out. The ferry had just been fixed and was ready to transfer passengers from Phuket to Phi Phi Island but today the ferry did not have scheduled service. The ferry can carry 490 passengers.

No injuries were reported. At this stage, it is believed the fire started from an electrictal short circuit. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the Forensic Police and the Phuket Marine Office.
