The agreements with KATA, Korean Air and SOOBAK will help position Thailand as a year-round destination for Korean travellers.
Bangkok, 21 December, 2022 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has signed three new tourism cooperation agreements with major South Korean tourism players – the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA), Korean Air, and SOOBAK – which are aimed at further expanding and strengthening tourism links between the two countries.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said “These new tourism cooperation deals, which come ahead of the Visit Thailand-Korea Year 2023-2024, will benefit Thai tourism. They will help the TAT position Thailand as an all-year-round destination for Korean travellers, particularly among the Generation Z, millennials, women traveling by themselves, incentives, luxury, longstay golfers and honeymoon segments.”
Mr. Yuthasak signed the new deals during a visit to the South Korean capital on 19 December, 2022.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KATA focuses on the sharing and exchanging of industry news, knowledge and know-how to promote more visitor traffic between Thailand and South Korea, the development of newly emerging market segments to cope with changing market trends, and the provision of mutual support in times of crisis.
The Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with Korean Air is aimed at boosting the airline’s flight operations to Thailand, including the opening of new routes to more destinations in the kingdom. The deal also seeks to offer American travelers more options in visiting Thailand, using Korean Air’s route network.
The MOU with SOOBAK will focus on promoting Thailand tourism products and services through the use of NFTs. Various benefits and deals will be offered exclusively to NFT holders, in line with Thailand’s drive to use new technologies and create a new ‘tourism ecosystem’ towards a more sustainable industry.
The number of Korean tourist arrivals to Thailand in 2022 is expected to be over 500,000, and this is forecast to increase in 2023 to at least 1.1 million.
