The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has confirmed they have NOT canceled New Year activities. More than 3.14 million tourists are expected to join in events which will generate at least 11.2 billion baht.
The TAT governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn stated to the press, “There is NO cancelation order or any change on activities for the ‘Amazing Thailand Countdown 2023’ which will be held by the TAT together with private operators. Any order would be issued by the Minister of Tourism and Sports Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.”
“We are expecting 3.14 million tourists on this New Year Festival which will generate at least 11.2 billion baht.”
“For the Pattaya Countdown event only the fireworks show has been cancelled, there will be dozens of concerts, events, a food festival, djs, shows, and more still happening. This change will not affect any income as tourists have already booked their travel and rooms.”

Meanwhile the Khao San private sector announced the cancelation of the Countdown 2023 due to what they called a ‘fragile time’. However, entertainment venues are still open.
Mr. Sanga Ruengwattanakun, the president of Khao San Business Operators, told the media, “Many government offices are being requested, but not ordered, to not hold entertainment activities for the New Year due to it being a ‘fragile time’ for Thai people.”
“So we have decided to cancel the countdown on December 31st on Khao San Road too. However, entertainment venues are still open as normal and may hold their private countdown events inside their venues.” Sanga concluded.
Some areas, like Mueang Chonburi, canceled their own New Year countdown and replaced it with a traditional temple ceremony. TAT has stressed however these were individual decisions and not a national one.
