At least 21 Thais died and 53 were injured in a huge fire at a hotel with a casino inside in Poipet.
TPN media notes that as of press time total numbers of dead and injured continued to have conflicting reports.
The fire started at 11:00 P.M last night (December 28th) and lasted for at least five hours until today in the early morning (December 29th) at a hotel with a large casino ‘Grand Diamond’ which is one of the ten biggest casinos in Poipet. The area is about 200 meters from the Thailand border in Aranyaprathet, Sakaeo.
The fire started from the second floor and spread to the third floor with huge smoke. More than 15 fire engines and ambulances from Aranyaprathet in Thailand were called for help.
More than 50 gamblers including Thais reportedly were stuck inside the place and on the rooftop of the hotel. At 21 Thais died while more than 50 Thais were injured. Many others escaped from the fire. Some people reportedly decided to jump off from the building.
The cause of the fire was still not finalized and determined by authorities as of Thursday evening, December 29th.
