Dr. Manoon Leechawengwongs, a Thai pulmonologist from Vichaiyut Hospital, came out on Monday, January 2nd, to suggest that Thai people get a booster jab against Covid-19 in light of China’s borders reopening on January 8th.

Dr. Manoon wrote on his Facebook fan page that China’s lifting of travel restrictions on January 8th, 2023 bodes well for the Thai economy as he expects millions of Chinese tourists will travel to Thailand.

The doctor added that Thai people should not worry that Chinese tourists will bring new strains of the Covid-19 virus to the country because viruses can constantly evolve to survive, and this can happen in any country, not just China.

“We should treat Chinese tourists the same way we welcome tourists from other countries,” Dr. Manoon said.

He also said that it is time to stop fearing Covid-19 and start living with it prudently. Dr. Manoon added that people should get a booster dose against Covid-19 and keep their masks on when in poorly ventilated areas.

He also said, “The benefit of being infected is that you can develop natural immunity and have a hybrid immunity that protects you better against Covid-19.”
