Two Russians Arrested for Begging in Surat Thani

  Two Russian tourists were arrested for illegally begging at a festival in Surat Thani.

A Surat Thani Immigration Officer told the Phuket Express that yesterday, (January 3rd), they arrested two Russians, Mr. Alexander Kirikov, 32, and Mr. Evgenii Malakhov, 36. They were both arrested at a festival in the Talad sub-district, Mueang Surat Thani district.

The Surat Thani Immigration Office told the Phuket Express that the two Russian men were found begging with Thai and English notes on paper that said that they were escaping from war (Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) and that they needed food and money.

The two men were taken to the Surat Tani City Police Station. They told police they arrived in Thailand on December 9th last year and had spent all their money. They needed money from Thai people for food and other needs.

The Surat Thani Immigration Officer told the Phuket Express that both men have still legal tourist visas, however, they will be facing charges of illegally begging.
