Southern Thai Tourism Improving with 85 Percent of Hotel Rooms Booked Until Next Month, says Hotel Association

Southern Thailand –

The southern tourism situation has improved with 85 percent of hotel rooms booked until next month, said the president of the Southern Hotel Association.

Mr. Sueksit Suwandissakun, the president of Southern Hotel Association, told The Phuket Express, “Tourism in the southern part of Thailand is better than December last year. Room bookings are at 85 percent which is more than we expected. Tourism has increased to levels at about the same as before Covid -19 in 2019. Many hotels are full in famous tourism areas. However, most of the room bookings are in three star hotels and below.”

“The booking rate this month is up to 80 percent meanwhile next month it is at 60 percent and even more booking is continuing . The limiting factor for tourism is that only 50 percent of flights are back to service when compared to 2019 (240 fights from 450 flights). However, in those flights which are being serviced passenger numbers are 70 percent improved.” Mr. Sueksit explained.

“Meanwhile, the top 10 countries in terms of number of arrivals in Phuket in the last year were: Russian, Indian, Australian, British, Singaporean, German, Malaysian, Kazakhstani, American, and Israeli,” Mr. Sueksit cintued.

About the issue in which police in Bangkok extorted a Taiwanese actress and rumors about officers allegedly extorting money from a Saudi Arabian tourist, this has not affected tourism. This month is the month of love due to Valentine’s Day but this does not help more travel as there are no long holidays especially for foreign tourists. The normal booking rate for this month is already good,” Mr. Sueksit noted.
